Overview

This standard has been developed for people working in a carton manufacturing production situation.
Due to the many and diverse production techniques, the variety of processes used, and the range of boards used, the need to comply with environmental legislation and company policy is an important part of the work activity.
The learner will be expected to show awareness, interpretation and the carrying out of personal responsibilities in relation to environmental requirements within the workplace and the company’s approved policies and procedures. It includes personal responsibilities in relation to the workplace and in reducing the environmental impact on areas surrounding and/or affected by the workplace site activities.
This standard is not just about waste disposal but developing the skills and knowledge to comply with all aspects of environmental legislation and company policy.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. follow company environmental policy and procedures
  2. identify environmental issues and their causes following standard operating procedures
  3. check environmental hazard/incident equipment/materials are used following standard operating procedures
  4. dispose of waste following current legislation and standard operating procedures
  5. report environmental issues to the appropriate person(s)

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. work activities that could have an impact on the environment
  2. how to interpret and apply relevant environmental policies to the carton manufacturing production process
  3. products/materials used that have environmental impact
  4. how these products/materials should be handled to comply with company environmental policies and procedures, to include, storage, disposal and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  5. products/materials used that can be re-cycled
  6. how these products/materials should be handled to comply with company re-cycling policies and procedures
  7. operational issues that can occur with the implementation of company environmental policies
  8. how to reduce the impact of these issues
