Overview

This standard is for print finishers who produce dies and stripping tools.
You must show that you can:

  1. produce die formes
  2. produce stripping tools
    This involves:
  3. identifying job requirements;
  4. identifying faults and taking action to deal with them;
  5. unloading and stacking finished products
  6. producing die formes;
  7. checking work meets required standard;
  8. taking appropriate action when it does not;
  9. producing stripping tools;

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

Produce die formes

  1. check you have all the details required for work

  4. select rule(s) for the job to meet specifications
  5. check the work area is safe and ready for production
  6. locate rules in position with acceptable inter image to meet specifications
  7. position nicks for the nature of the image and the press requirements
  8. identify and correct faults within the scope of your responsibility
  9. identify and report faults outside the scope of your responsibility to the appropriate person(s)
  10. check work meets your company's quality standards
  11. produce die forme in time to meet production schedules
  12. position and secure appropriate ejection material to die boards
  13. remove waste following standard operating procedures
    Produce stripping tools
  14. check you have all the details required for work
  15. confirm you have enough materials of the right type to meet specifications
  16. report issues where materials provided are not correct or sufficient to the appropriate person(s)
  17. check the work area is safe and ready for production
  18. produce stripping tools to meet production schedules
  19. check work matches the required standards
  20. make adjustments when standards are not met
  21. report if the standards cannot be met to the appropriate person(s)
  22. position stripping pins and devices to strip waste at optimum running speed of machines
  23. check areas to be stripped will optimise machine speed and sheet stability with minimum subsequent hand work
  24. prepare machines so waste does not catch when passing through apertures
  25. remove waste following standard operating procedures
