Assist in preventative and corrective maintenance of traction cabling systems
Overview
This standard is about assisting in preventative and corrective maintenance on traction cabling systems. The maintenance may be routine and could involve replacing, locating, diagnosing, restoring and testing earthing and bonding equipment.
The types of systems may include:
- Contact Systems (OLE, Conductor rails)
- Power Supply Equipment
Types of maintenance activities may include:
- Routine and preventative maintenance
- Replacement
- Fault-finding
- Restoration
- Testing
This may also include working on one or more electrical components associated with power supply systems. The types of activities will be both planned and unplanned but will generally be single stage processes.
At all times you will be working within the limits of your own responsibility and report any instances where the activities cannot be achieved to the relevant person(s).
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
P1 maintain safe working practices and comply with all relevant health and safety regulations, directives, and guidelines
P2 follow the relevant maintenance schedules, specifications and instructions to carry out the required activities
P3 carry out the activities within the limits of your own authority
P4 carry out the maintenance activities in the specified sequence and within organisational timescales
P5 confirm that the systems are functioning as defined by the specification
P6 complete relevant documentation in line with your organisation’s procedures
P7 dispose of waste materials in line with your organisation’s procedures
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
K1 the relevant health and safety regulations, directives, guidelines, and safe working practices and procedures as defined by your organisation
K2 how to follow maintenance schedules, specifications and instructions that are approved by your organisation
K3 your organisation’s methods and techniques for carrying out preventative and corrective maintenance activities relevant to your role
K4 the importance of carrying out activities in the specified sequence, within organisational timescales agreed
K5 how to confirm the systems are functioning
K6 your organisation’s procedures for waste disposal
K7 the relevant reporting lines and procedures that are approved by your organisation
K8 the limits of your own authority and responsibility and those of others involved
