Overview
This standard is about analysing and evaluating travel and tourism data collected by your organisation and presenting the results in a way that meets the requirements of whoever has requested the work. You will be expected to highlight trends, draw conclusions and make recommendations, if relevant.
This standard is for staff engaged in the analysis of travel and tourism data.
When you have completed this standard, you will be able to demonstrate your knowledge of and ability to:
• Analyse, evaluate and present travel and tourism data
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
1. Confirm the purpose of the travel and tourism data analysis with whoever has requested the work
2. Agree the required travel and tourism data analysis and evaluation criteria with whoever has requested the work
3. Agree the timescales for conducting and completing the required travel and tourism data analysis and evaluation with whoever has requested the work
4. Gather and use travel and tourism data in line with organisational procedures
5. Extract and synthesise the travel and tourism data necessary to achieve the purpose of your analysis within the agreed timescale
6. Conduct and complete your evaluation of travel and tourism data within the agreed timescale, and confirm it meets the agreed evaluation criteria
7. Format and present statistical travel and tourism data in line with organisational procedures
8. Produce a clear, concise and factual report supported by relevant and valid evidence
9. Identify any obvious trends supported by the travel and tourism data gathered and results of your analysis
10. Draw relevant conclusions based upon and supported by the travel and tourism data gathered
11. Make recommendations when necessary, based on factual supporting evidence
12. Adapt the presentation of the results of your analysis and evaluation of travel and tourism data to meet the needs and interests of your audience
13. Forward your report to the relevant person in the required format and by the time agreed
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
1. The purpose(s) for which your travel and tourism data analysis and report is required, the evaluation and analysis criteria and/or instructions which you are required to follow
2. The timescale for the analysis, evaluation and presentation of travel and tourism data to be undertaken
3. How to identify relevant information from small and big data
4. How to compare statistics and recognise opinion and possible bias when analysing and evaluating travel and tourism data
5. How to synthesise the information you have obtained in order to achieve your purpose
6. How to select a style of writing to suit the degree of formality required and nature of the subject
7. How to organise written material coherently
8. How to make the findings clear by writing composing, proof-reading, re-drafting and formatting documents so that spelling, punctuation and grammar are accurate
9. How to draw and present travel and tourism data trends, conclusions and recommendations based on the evidence to hand
