Plan electrification and plant engineering activities
Overview
This standard is about planning electrification and plant engineering activities. It includes identifying the operations to be carried out, the resources required, and may include considering the availability of:
- technical documentation
- equipment
- tools
- materials
- components
- personnel
The type of activities to be planned may relate to:
- contact systems (OLE, Conductor rails)
- power supply equipment
At all times you must take into account the time the system will be available for the task when planning activities and considering resources.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
P1 source and interpret information required for the activity
P2 identify the health and safety regulations, directives, guidelines, and safe working practices and procedures that must be followed
P3 identify the activities to be carried out and determine their sequence
P4 establish what resources are required
P5 identify and incorporate any special requirements into the plan
P6 identify where technical documentation, equipment, tools, materials, components and/or personnel are not available and deal with the deficiency in line with your organisation's procedures
P7 estimate the timescales required
P8 prepare and record the plan
P9 ensure all required documentation is complete, accurate, formatted and processed in accordance with your organisation's procedures
P10 address problems within your authority and escalate unresolved issues as per your organisation's reporting procedures
P11 discuss and agree on alternatives with the relevant person(s) when planned activities cannot be achieved
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
K1 the relevant health and safety regulations, directives, guidelines, and safe working practices and procedures as defined by your organisation
K2 how to source and interpret the types of information required for the activity
K3 the importance of planning the activities in the specified sequence and agreed timescale
K4 the types of resources required
K5 how to estimate the timescales required
K6 how to prepare and record the plan
K7 how to deal with a deficiency of technical documentation, equipment, tools, materials, components and/or personnel
K8 how to identify, evaluate and respond to activities that cannot be achieved
K9 the relevant reporting lines and procedures that are approved by your organisation
K10 the limits of your own authority and responsibility and those of others involved
