Carry out installation of electrification and plant assets
Overview
This standard is about installing, positioning and securing electrification and plant assets correctly and making the necessary connections in accordance with your organisation’s procedures. You will generally be performing multistage processes and any interference with other systems and assets must be kept to a minimum. Where interference with other systems and assets has to take place, you will ensure the correct approvals are obtained.
The types of assets may include:
- contact systems (OLE, Conductor rails)
- power supply equipment
These may also be in one or more of the following areas: - structural
- mechanical
- electrical
At all times you will be working to within the limits of your own responsibility and report any instances where the activities cannot be achieved to the relevant person(s), this may include following reporting, recording and escalating procedures.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
P1 maintain safe working practices and comply with all relevant health and safety regulations, directives, and guidelines
P2 source and interpret the relevant drawings, specifications and instructions for the installation being carried out
P3 identify, analyse and determine the sequence of the activities to be undertaken
P4 identify and confirm the assets to be installed
P5 install, position, secure and record the equipment and components in accordance with the specification
P6 ensure that all necessary connections to the equipment and components are complete
P7 confirm that the installation is complete, complies with the specification and all necessary tests and checks have been performed
P8 confirm that the relevant asset(s), equipment and/or component(s) are free from damage
P9 complete relevant maintenance records in line with your organisation’s procedures
P10 identify where the operational condition of the assets may affect the functional integrity and safety of the operational system
P11 report any instances where the activities cannot be fully met
P12 dispose of waste materials in line with your organisation's procedures
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
K1 the relevant health and safety regulations, directives, guidelines, and safe working practices and procedures as defined by your organisation
K2 how to source and interpret drawings, specifications and instructions that are approved by your organisation
K3 how to identify discrepancies in drawings, specifications and instructions, including, as appropriate version control
K4 how to identify and analyse the activities to be undertaken
K5 how to identify the assets to be installed
K6 your organisation's methods and techniques for carrying out installation activities relevant to your role
K7 the importance of carrying out installation activities in the specified sequence, within the timescales set by your organisation, and ensuring minimal interference with other systems and assets
K8 how to establish the operational condition of the asset(s)
K9 the implications of when activities cannot be completed
K10 how to ensure the installation activity is complete
K11 the types of tests and checks that can be performed upon completion of the installation
K12 the types of conditions that would impact on the functional integrity and safety of the operational system
K13 your organisation's procedures for waste disposal
K14 the relevant reporting lines and procedures that are approved by your organisation
K15 the limits of your own authority and responsibility and those of others involved
