Overview
This standard is about informing clients about the sources of financial support available to them which may be required during the arrangement of a funeral.
This standard is for all funeral directors, funeral director assistants and funeral arrangers.
When you have completed this standard you will be able to demonstrate your understanding of and ability to:
- Inform clients about sources of financial support available to them when arranging a funeral
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
1. establish whether your clients require financial support when arranging a funeral
2. provide your clients with information about sources of financial support that is up-to-date and sufficient for their requirements
3. provide your clients with information about sources of financial support in a format they understand and that meets their requirements
4. give clients sufficient opportunities to ask questions and clarify the information given regarding possible financial support
5. confirm clients’ understanding of the information given to them
6. keep records of the information given to clients that are clear, accurate and stored securely in accordance with relevant regulations, legislation, codes of practice and your funeral business’ policies and procedures
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
1. why it is important to clarify whether your clients require financial support when arranging a funeral
2. how to establish clients’ requirements for financial support
3. what information to provide to clients about sources of financial support available to them
4. where to locate the information on financial support that your clients require
5. how to check the reliability, accuracy and currency of information you provide
6. how to check your clients’ understanding of the information you provide to them
7. the different ways of providing information to clients
8. the requirements to store and record information given to clients in accordance with relevant regulations, legislation, codes of practice and your funeral business’ policies and procedures
