This standard is about supporting clients when the deceased has bequeathed their body. It involves supporting clients through the process following the bequeathal providing information to the clients on the process and providing any necessary documentation.

This standard is for funeral directors, funeral director’s assistants, funeral arrangers, funeral attendants and funeral operatives.

When you have completed this standard you will be able to demonstrate your understanding of and ability to:

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

1. comply with the relevant regulations regarding the bequeathal of the deceased that are applicable, in the country where the bequeathal is to take place 2. explain to your client the process that will be followed when the bequeathed body has been released from the establishment licenced by the human tissue authority 3. explain to your client the procedures for disposal of the remains following anatomical inspection 4. provide support to your client or signpost relevant sources of information after bequeathal 5. treat the deceased remains with dignity and respect when arranging disposal

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

1. the relevant regulations and guidance relating to bequeathal[U1] of a body 2. the process that must be followed when the deceased is released from the establishment licensed by the human tissue authority following bequeathal 3. the relevant procedures for disposal of the remains following anatomical inspection 4. where to find relevant information, guidance and documentation to supply to the client following bequeathal of the deceased 5. the importance of treating the deceased remains with dignity and respect when arranging disposal
