Overview

This standard is about maintaining the aircraft cabin environmental conditions including heating, air conditioning and lighting. This involves carrying out pre-flight checks and operating the environment control systems to maintain the airline’s standards for the cabin and on-board facilities, and the cabin light settings for night departure or arrival.

This standard for members of the cabin crew.

When you have completed this standard, you will be able to demonstrate your knowledge of and ability to:

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

1. Carry out pre-flight checks of cabin environment control systems according to the airline's procedures 2. Check that the cabin and on-board facilities are ready before passengers get on the aircraft 3. Maintain the cabin environment, appearance, and the on-board facilities according to airline standards at all times 4. Operate the aircraft environmental control systems in line with the airline’s procedures 5. Identify and respond to aircraft environmental control systems issues within the limits of your responsibility and seek assistance from crew members as required 6. Record and report faulty aircraft environmental control systems in line with the airline's procedures 7. Respond to passenger's comments, questions, complaints or requests relating to the cabin environment and take action according to the airline’s procedures

You need to know and understand:

1. Where to find, how to use and the function of aircraft cabin environmental control systems, including heating, air-conditioning and lighting 2. The airline’s procedures for carrying out pre-flight checks of aircraft cabin environmental control systems, the aircraft cabin and on-board facilities 3. The cabin-light settings for night departure or arrival 4. The airline’s standards and procedures for maintaining the aircraft cabin environment, appearance and on-board facilities 5. The types of aircraft cabin environmental control systems issues which may arise and how to deal with them 6. When and how to seek assistance from crew members 7. The airline's procedures for recording and reporting aircraft cabin environmental control system faults, including the use of the cabin defects log 8. How to respond to passengers’ comments, questions, complaints or requests relating to the aircraft cabin environment
