Overview
This standard is about maintaining security on board aircraft. It involves carrying out security checks before and during the flight. You need to be able to respond to breaches or potential breaches of security and follow procedures in response to specific threats to security
This standard for members of the cabin crew.
When you have completed this standard, you will be able to demonstrate your knowledge of and ability to:
• Maintain security on board aircraft
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
1. Complete aircraft security checks, searches and operations in line with the airline's procedures and destination specific legal requirements
2. Report security concerns relating to crew members or ground staff in line with the airline’s procedure
3. Observe passengers and identify potential threats to security
4. Report any possible security risks or problems in line with the airline’s procedures
5. Carry out aircraft searches in the event of an identified a security threat or breach in line with the airline's procedure
6. Follow the airline's procedures if you discover a suspicious item
7. Respond to security incidents involving passengers in line with the airline's procedures
8. Communicate with the flight crew when potential or actual breaches of security occur
9. Complete and submit documentation relating to security in line with airline procedures and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
1. The airline’s routine and emergency security procedures pre-flight to disembarkation
2. The importance of complying with destination specific legal requirements
3. Actual and potential threats to security and the airline's procedures for dealing with them
4. The airline’s procedures for organisational identification (ID)
5. The types of security checks and operations – head counts, clearing aircraft, checking toilets and sealing aircraft
6. How to observe passengers and identify potential threats to security
7. The airline’s search procedures
8. The airline’s procedures for responding to security incidents involving passengers
9. The airline’s procedures for responding to actual or potential security breaches
10. The airline’s procedures for communicating with flight deck crew in the event of a security breach
11. The airline’s procedures for managing access to and egress from the flight deck door
