The standard is about selecting and operating control room equipment and systems. This involves using control room equipment and systems according to your organisation’s procedures, being able to identify and respond to equipment and systems faults or failures and minimising the effect on control room and flight operations.

This standard is for those who work in an airport/airfield or airline control room.

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

1. Select the control room equipment and systems relevant to the task in line with operational requirements and organisational procedures 2. Start up and operate control room equipment and systems in line with organisational procedures and relevant legislation 3. Identify, investigate and establish the nature and cause of control room equipment or systems faults and failures  4. Report control equipment or systems faults and failures according to organisational procedures 5. Evaluate the extent and duration of the effect of control room equipment faults or failures on control room and flight operations and take action to minimise disruption according to organisational procedures 6. Return to routine control room equipment and systems operating procedures when the faults or failure have been rectified 7. Communicate with colleagues as required in line with organisational procedures 8. Complete and process control room equipment documentation in line with organisational procedures

You need to know and understand:

1. How to locate, start up and operate control room equipment and systems 2. The types, purpose and characteristics of control room equipment, systems and associated software 3. How control room equipment and systems operate and interact with each other 4. The suitability and limitations of control room equipment and systems 5. Your organisation’s procedures and relevant legal requirements for operating control room equipment and systems and the importance of complying with them at all times 6. The types of causes of control room equipment and systems failure 7. How to identify investigate, and establish the nature and cause faults and failures in control room equipment and systems 8. Your organisation’s procedures for reporting faults and failures in control room equipment and systems 9. How to evaluate the extent and duration of the effect of control room equipment faults or failures on control room and flight operations  10. The actions to take to minimise the effect of control room equipment and systems faults or failures on flight operations 11. The importance of returning to routine control room equipment and systems operating procedures as soon as faults or failure have been rectified 12. The lines and methods of communication within the organisation 13. The types of information to be communicated in relation to control room equipment and systems 14.
