Overview
This standard involves the control of airside works in progress. The ability to plan airside works safely is an essential role in any airport/airfield. This involves confirming that contractors have the necessary permits and security passes to access the works area and that they understand the work to be carried out. This also involves monitoring the works in progress to confirm that all airport / airfield health and safety and other organisational procedures and legal requirements are being adhered to, as well as being able to respond to any issues which may impact upon the operation of the airport/airfield while works are in progress.
This standard is for those for operating in airside operations and airport/airfield control rooms whose role includes the control of airside works in progress.

Performance criteria
You must be able to:
1. Confirm the required works permits and security passes have been issued to contractors in line with organisational and airport / airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements
2. Assess and monitor the impact of planned airside works on organisational, airport / airfield and airside operations
3. Confirm that the impact of adverse weather on the airside works has been considered and planned for
4. Escort contractors to the airside works area in line with organisational and airport / airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements
5. Confirm the contractor’s understanding of the airside work to be completed
6. Check and confirm the area to be worked on has the required signage according to organisational and airport / airfield procedures
7. Inform Air Traffic Control (ATC)) in line with organisational and airport/airline procedures and relevant legal requirements if the contractor needs to access controlled areas
8. Monitor the airside works in progress to confirm compliance with organisational and airport/airfield procedures, health and safety and relevant legal requirements
9. Communicate the progress of airside works to all necessary parties as required in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures
10. Manage an airside works area whilst maintaining organisational, airport/airfield and airside operations
11. Respond to identified issues which have the potential to impact upon the operation of the airport/airfield while works are in progress
12. Conduct checks of the completed work, and inspect and re-open the area in line with organisational and airport / airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements
13. Inform all necessary parties when the area worked on becomes operational
14. Complete the required documentation in relation to airside works in progress in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements

1. The types of works permit and security passes required for contractors to gain access to the works area
2. Your organisation’s and the airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements for issuing works permits and security passes to contractors
3. How to plan for the impact of adverse weather on the airside works

11. How to manage an airside works area whilst maintaining organisational, airport/airfield and airside operations

13. When and how to close a works area, and hand back a closed area on completion of work
