Overview

This standard is about inspecting and maintaining ground power units at an airport/airfield to ensure they meet the operational performance requirements. This also involves being able to identify and take action to rectify any operational issues or problems and also perform the necessary maintenance to ensure the required organisational and airport/airfield performance standards are maintained and relevant legal requirements are met.

This standard is for those working in airports/airfields carrying out roles such as airfield electrician, airfield technician and airfield maintenance engineer.

You must be able to:

1. Carry out inspections of ground power units in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements 2. Assess the risks associated with the operation of ground power units 3. Identify and respond to maintenance issues with ground power units in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures 4. Carry out routine ground power unit maintenance in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements 5. Take the required action when there are issues with ground power unit performance 6. Communicate with colleagues as required when carrying out ground power unit inspections and maintenance 7. Maintain your own, colleagues’, passengers’, and visitors’ health, safety and welfare when carrying out ground power unit inspections and maintenance 8. Take the required action when work cannot be completed within the agreed timescales  9. Complete the required documentation in relation to ground power unit inspections and maintenance according to your organisation’s and the airport/airfield's procedures and relevant legal requirements
