Overview

This standard is about identifying the relevant guidance, regulations, instructions and organisational procedures that you must comply with to make sure you are prepared for your shift.  It outlines the requirements that enable you to begin and carry out your duties safely and in accordance with your organisation’s policies, procedures, vision, values and culture. This includes wearing the required personal protective equipment, using materials and equipment, completing documentation and undertaking your work as instructed. This also includes communicating and interacting with your supervisor and team members to maintain professional working relationships.  

This standard is for those working in aviation ground operations carrying out roles 
such as passenger handling, ramp operation, aircraft handling, aircraft loading, baggage handling and passenger transfer.

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

1. Meet your organisation’s standards for appearance and conduct 2. Report for duty to your supervisor 3. Acknowledge and confirm your understanding of the information relating to carrying out your duties provided in the daily brief  4. Confirm the documentation, equipment and materials relevant to your duties is prepared in line with organisational procedures  5. Wear mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE) in line with relevant legislation and organisational procedures 6. Comply with your organisation’s policies and standard operating procedures relating to carrying out your working shift 7. Use all equipment and materials in line with your organisation's practices and procedures  8. Communicate with colleagues according to your organisation’s procedures and in a way which promotes your organisation’s values 9. Obtain and provide required information from/to colleagues in line with your organisation’s procedures 10. Inform your supervisor and/or team members if you cannot meet a deadline 11. Adhere to your organisation’s vision, values and culture 12. Establish and maintain a professional working relationship with colleagues 13. Deal with personal differences, or differences of opinion, in a way that avoids conflict and maintains mutual respect  14. Participate in and contribute to forums to identify problems and improvements in working practices

Your organisation’s policy and procedures relating to fitness for duty 4. The importance of wearing mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE) as instructed 5. The types of equipment and materials required to carry out your duties on your shift 6. How to access and use the equipment required to carry out your duties on your shift 7. The information and documents required when preparing for duty 8. Your organisation’s procedures for reporting for duty and signing off duty 9. Your organisation’s standard operating procedures and relevant legal requirements relating to your job role 10. Your organisation’s vision, values and culture, and why it is important to adhere to them 11. The types of information required by colleagues, and how to obtain and provide it 12. With whom you should communicate to ensure you are prepared for your shift 13. The communication techniques to use with your colleagues and how to adapt these to their needs and different situations 14. The different methods for developing and maintaining professional working relationships with your colleagues  15. When and how to ask for help and / or information and the importance of doing do 16. How to participate in and contribute to forums to identify problems and improvements in working practices, and the importance of doing so
