Overview

This standard is about developing and implementing airside safety systems and procedures. This involves taking account of operational safety considerations and consulting interested parties such as the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), local planning organisations and airport/airfield operators when planning and developing airside safety procedures to confirm they meet airport/airfield safety and relevant legal requirements. This also involves allocating airside safety responsibilities to airport/airfield mangers, confirming that all those operating airside have undertaken the required training, and promoting best practice in airside safety amongst airside operators. You must be able to develop systems to monitor the implementation of airside safety procedures and respond to any issues that may occur. You must also be able to investigate airside incidents and accidents and take action to prevent accidents and incidents from reoccurring.

This standard is for those working in operational management positions in airports/airfields.

When you have completed this standard, you will be able to demonstrate your knowledge of and ability to:

Safety best practice**
Best practice is a method or technique that has been generally accepted as superior to any alternatives because it produces results that are superior to those achieved by other means or because it has become a standard way of doing things.

Best practices stand as a general guideline for action in a wide variety of scenarios. A list of best practices might be given to employees as a guideline to completing work or tasks in the most effective manner.
