Overview

This standard is about implementing, monitoring and maintaining airport/airfield security procedures in your area of responsibility. This involves reviewing all relevant sources of information to gauge their influence on security procedures and monitoring their implementation. You must be able to conduct team briefings on security matters and manage their adherence to organisational and airport/airfield security procedures and relevant legal requirements. You must also be able to contribute to organisational and airport/airfield or statutory security testing activities. This also involves identifying and responding to security incidents, establishing the level of threat of suspected or actual breach of security and co-ordinating the action taken in the event of a breach of airport/airfield security.

This standard is for those in operational management positions in airports/airfields.

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

1. Monitor the implementation of security procedures in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements  2. Review all relevant sources of information for their possible influence on/inclusion in security procedures within your area of responsibility 3. Conduct team briefings on all relevant security matters and confirm team members understand their responsibilities and contribution to maintaining airport/airfield security 4. Manage team members not following security procedures in line with organisational and airport/airfield policies and procedures  5. Contribute to organisational and airport/airfield or statutory security testing in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements 6. Identify and respond to issues which may present a security risk in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements 7. Take the required action when faults, damage to security equipment or problems with security are identified in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements 8. Report to senior management issues with the security of actual or possible access points in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements  9. Maintain security procedures relating to visitors to the site or a specific area in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements 10. Co-ordinate the actions taken in the event of a breach of aviation security  11. Establish the threat level of suspected or actual breaches of security using the relevant sources of information 12. Report actual or suspected security threats or breaches to senior management in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements 13. Inform the relevant members of staff what action requires to be taken in the event of a security threat or breach in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements 14. Complete the required security documentation in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements

The methods of concealment and areas of concealment of prohibited or suspicious items  7. Your role and the limits of your authority for maintaining security in an airport/airfield 8. How to monitor and maintain security procedures in your area of responsibility in an airport/airfield 9. The types of authorisation and personal identification (ID) required to access different areas of the airport/airfield and how to monitor compliance whose compliance 10. The importance of maintaining awareness of potential and actual security threats or risks 11. How to manage team members not following security procedures in line with organisational and airport/airfield policies and procedures, and the importance of doing so  12. Your organisation's and the airport/airfield’s procedures for raising or responding to alarms basic 13. Your organisation’s and the airport/airfield’s and statutory security testing procedures  14. Your organisation’s and airport/airfield’s procedures and relevant legal requirements for responding to identified faults, damage to security equipment or security issues  15. How to co-ordinate action taken in the event of a breach of airport/airfield security breaches 16. The actions to take to respond to actual or suspected security threats or breaches within the limits of your authority  17. Your organisation’s and airport/airfield’s procedures and relevant legal requirements for completing security documentation
