Overview

This standard is about implementing and monitoring health and safety working practices and maintaining a healthy and safe working environment in an airport/airfield. This involves implementing systems, procedures and practices to monitor and maintain health and safety within your area of responsibility. This also involves providing health and safety information to team members and managing their adherence to health and safety procedures and compliance with the relevant health and safety legislation. You must also be able to conduct health and safety checks and inspections of workplace areas and equipment, as well as identifying and responding to actual and potential workplace hazards, and completing the required health and safety documentation in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements.

This standard is for those responsible for supervising or managing others and/or co-ordinating work areas in an airport/airfield.

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

1. Implement systems, procedures and practices to monitor and maintain health and safety within your area of responsibility 2. Monitor and maintain health and safety working practices in your area of responsibility 3. Take the required action when systems, procedures and practices for maintaining health and safety are not being complied with 4. Provide team members with the information relating to systems, procedures and practices for the maintaining of health and safety 5. Maintain a healthy and safe working environment in line with organisational and airport/airfield policies and procedures and relevant legal requirements  6. Manage team members not following health and safety procedures in line with organisational and airport/airfield policies and procedures 7. Confirm that team members’ working conditions meet current health and safety legislation and organisational and airport/airfield requirements 8. Identify hazards or potential hazards in the workplace in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements 9. Take the required action to respond to hazards or potential hazards in the workplace in accordance with organisational and airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements 10. Conduct health and safety checks and inspections in line with organisational and airport/airfield procedures and relevant legal requirements  11. Confirm that equipment is maintained and is in a safe working order according to the manufacturer's, organisational, airport/airfield instructions and relevant legal requirements 12. Complete and process the required health and safety documentation in line with your organisation's and the airport/airline’s procedures and relevant legal requirements

How to implement systems, procedures and practices to monitor health and safety within your area of responsibility 5. How to monitor and maintain health and safety working practices in your area of responsibility 6. Your organisation’s and the airport/airfield’s procedures for maintaining health and safety procedures 7. The actions to take when systems, procedures and practices for maintaining health and safety are not being complied with 8.
