Overview

This standard is about taking action to deal with incidents which can occur in aviation security including security threats, security emergencies and actual and suspected security breaches. The action you take must be in line with your organisation’s procedures and must always be within your ability and authority. In situations outside your training or authority you will know where and how to get help, for example, the emergency services, colleagues, other departments and organisations which provide help. You should also be able to report details of incidents in aviation security and any action you have taken.

This standard is for those undertaking aviation ground security activities.

When you have completed this standard, you will be able to demonstrate your knowledge of and ability to:

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

1. Identify the type of incident in aviation security 2. Take action to deal with and report incidents in aviation security in line with your organisation’s procedures and relevant legislation 3. Maintain your own, customers’ and colleagues’ health, safety and welfare when taking action to deal with incidents in aviation security 4. Communicate with colleagues during an incident using required terminology 5. Escalate incidents that are outside the limits of your job role or training in line with your organisation’s procedures 6. Complete, record and, store records of incidents in line with your organisation’s procedures and current data protection legislation

You need to know and understand:

1. The possible types of incidents you may have to deal with in aviation security 2. Your organisation’s procedures and relevant legal requirements for dealing with and reporting incidents 3. The action you can take and are authorised to take when dealing with incidents in aviation security 4. How to maintain your own, customers’ and colleagues’ health, safety and welfare when taking action to deal with incidents in aviation security 5. The terminology to use with colleagues when taking action to deal with incidents in aviation security 6. When and how to escalate incidents in aviation security 7. Your organisation’s procedures and current data protection legislation for completing, recording and storing records of incidents
