This standard is about protecting an aircraft. This involves being able to identify the aircraft and implementing the required processes, procedures and techniques to ensure aircraft security is maintained.

This unit is for those undertaking aviation ground security activities.

When you have completed this standard, you will be able to demonstrate your knowledge of and ability to:

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

1. Obtain and respond to information relating to the aircraft being protected 2. Implement the security processes, procedures and techniques required for protecting the aircraft 3. Report any issues, if identified, in line with your organisation's procedures 4. Maintain your own, customers’ and colleagues’ health, safety and welfare when protecting an aircraft 5. Liaise with the air carrier representative and ground crew or handling agent as required to allow safe access to and egress from the aircraft 6. Complete and store aircraft security documentation in line with your organisation’s procedures and relevant legal requirements

You need to know and understand:

1. The type of information required to protect an aircraft and where to find it 2. The security processes, procedures and techniques for protecting an aircraft 3. Your organisation’s procedures for protecting an aircraft and the importance of following them 4. Your organisation’s procedures for reporting identified issues 5. When, how and with whom to liaise to ensure safe access to and egress from the aircraft 6. Your organisation’s procedures and relevant legal requirements for completing and storing aircraft security documentation
