Performance criteria
You must be able to:
1. Confirm the work environment is, as far as possible, free from hazards
2. Identify and report health and safety risks, and rectify those which you can within the limits of your remit in line with organisational procedures
3. Advise customers and colleagues when hazardous situations arise or may arise
4. Use and store equipment and materials in line with organisational procedures and manufacturers’ guidance
5. Take action to deal with emergencies in accordance with your organisation’s procedures and within limits of your authority
6. Comply with your organisation’s procedures and relevant regulations relating to your job role
7. Complete and process the required health and safety documentation in line with your organisation’s procedures
8. Maintain health and safety at all times in line with your organisation’s procedures and relevant regulations

2. What constitutes a safe working environment
3. The types of hazardous situations that may occur within your working environment
4. The health and safety equipment, including personal protective equipment (PPE) and materials in your work environment

6. The types of safety signs and their meanings in your working environment
7. The limits of your own remit
8. Your organisation’s documentation completion, recording and reporting procedures

Your Organisation**
This is the company you work for or are contracted to.
Organisation’s Procedures**
These are the procedures your organisation has in place to ensure compliance with relevant rules, regulations, instructions, policies, procedures, legislation and laws relevant to the activity.
Customer(s)**
In the aviation security environment this includes any person who passes through or has the potential to pass through a defined aviation security area, examples could include internal customers such as colleagues, line manager, trainees or external customers such as passengers, suppliers, contractors, visitors, staff, compliance authorities etc.
