Overview
This standard is about being an effective learner in your retail organisation. It assumes help and support with planning and carrying out your learning plans is available. Your responsibilities are to contribute to the planning process, carry out your plan and evaluate its effectiveness.
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound (SMART) planning is a requirement of this standard to plan your goals and your learning aims and objectives.
This standard is for staff responsible for planning, organising and evaluating their own learning.
When you have completed this standard you will be able to demonstrate your understanding of and ability to:
- Contribute to the planning, organisation and evaluation of your own learning in a retail organisation
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- discuss and agree learning goals that are relevant, realistic and clear following your workplace procedures
- identify the knowledge and skills required to achieve your learning goals
- agree action points and deadlines that are realistic, taking account of past learning experiences and the time and resources available for learning
- contribute to making a SMART learning plan to organise your own learning
- organise your learning using internal or external suppliers of learning used by your workplace following your workplace procedures
- review your progress regularly and when necessary change your ways of working, revisiting your learning plan at regular intervals
- ask for feedback on your progress from those in a position to give it and use their feedback to improve your performance
- evaluate your learning aims and outcomes when your learning has finished to see if it has met the overall learning aim
- report your progress of your learning to relevant people in your workplace
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
- who can help set your goals, aims and objectives, help plan your learning and give feedback regarding your progress
- how to identify the knowledge and skills required to achieve your goals
- how reflecting on past learning experiences can contribute to planning future learning, and techniques for doing so
- what SMART planning is and how to use it to plan learning
- how to work out how much time you need to devote to learning
- how to organise your learning using internal and external suppliers of learning used by your workplace
- how often to review your progress and how to do this
- how to adjust your plans to meet your goal and the aims and objectives of the learning
- why you need to ask for feedback on your progress, how to do so and how to respond positively
- how to evaluate your own learning and who to report it to in your workplace
