When you have completed this standard you will be able to demonstrate your understanding of and ability to:

  • Work effectively in a team to meet targets a retail organisation

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. ask colleagues in your team promptly and politely for the help and information required to carry out your duties and meet targets
  2. respond willingly and promptly to colleagues' requests for help and information when your workload allows and without taking on more responsibility than you are authorised to
  3. use effective team work techniques to meet team targets, taking on your fair share of work and communicating respectfully to everyone in your team
  4. discuss and resolve difficulties in working together in a constructive way
  5. follow your workplace procedures to ask for advice about any problems in working with colleagues that cannot be resolved independently
  6. follow relevant legislation and your workplace procedures for reporting bullying and harassment
  7. follow relevant legislation and your workplace procedures for equality and diversity
  8. follow your workplace procedures and relevant legislation for safeguarding health and safety during all work activities
  9. follow your workplace requirements for good timekeeping and attendance

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. how to keep track of how much work is to be undertaken and how long it is likely to take
  2. why and when information from colleagues is required to meet targets
  3. why to offer help to colleagues and respond positively to requests for help,whenever possible
  4. how to use effective team working techniques that contribute to meeting team targets
  5. why to balance being helpful to colleagues with completing your own work
  6. how to refuse requests for help, when necessary, in ways that show respect for the other person and maintain good working relationships
  7. how to let colleagues know when their behaviour is affecting the team in negative ways
  8. how to encourage constructive discussion when colleagues are upset with your behaviour
  9. who to approach for advice and help when experiencing difficulties in working with colleagues
  10. how the relevant legislation and your workplace define discrimination, bullying and harassment
  11. what the relevant legislation is and your workplace procedures for equality and diversity
  12. what your workplace and relevant legislation requirements are regarding health and safety and why instructions for safeguarding health and safety must be followed
  13. what your workplace requirements are for good timekeeping and attendance
