This standard is for owners, managers and team leaders.
When you have completed this standard you will be able to demonstrate your understanding of and ability to:
- Organise an audit and put it into practice in a retail organisation
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- find out and understand when to carry out the audit, why it is required, what it should cover and who requires the audit following your workplace procedures
- find out how the audit plan should be laid out and the level of detail required to meet your workplace requirements
- find out what resources are available to carry out the audit in your workplace
- identify any problems that are likely to prevent the audit being carried out effectively in the time available, and resolve them before the audit is started following your workplace procedures
- organise the resources and information required to carry out an audit following your workplace procedures
- choose relevant staff to assist with the audit, check their availability and give responsibilities to each of them following your workplace procedures
- follow your workplace procedures to brief the team so that they know what their responsibilities are during the audit, and how to carry out those responsibilities
- plan the work of the team to make sure it is accurate and will cause as little disruption as possible to normal work following your workplace procedures
- put the audit into practice and organise the team's activities during the audit following your workplace procedures
- check on the team's progress at suitable intervals and help them resolve any problems they may be having in completing the audit following your workplace procedures

- why it is important to audit levels of stock and stock inventories
- how often audits need to be carried out to meet your workplace requirements
- the information held in your workplace' stock inventory and how to access it
- how to interpret information and correct mistakes in your workplace stock inventory
- the types of situations that can make it difficult to carry out an effective audit in the time available according to your workplace requirements and how to prevent them
- the resources required to implement an audit in your workplace
- when and how to tell colleagues that an audit is to take place, and how it is likely to affect colleagues' work
- how to organise the resources and information to put an audit into practice
- how to choose people to help with the audit to meet your workplace requirements and give them responsibilities
- how to explain to the team what their responsibilities are during the audit, and how these responsibilities are to be carried out
- how to put an audit into practice in your workplace
- how to organise the team's activities during an audit
- how to check on the progress of the audit
