- Manage staff and maintain stock in a storage facility in a retail organisation
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- follow your workplace procedures and relevant legislation to organise your workplace's storage facilities to take account of day-to-day work, safety requirements and the need to keep goods secure and in a saleable condition
- give staff accurate, up-to-date information and training so they can use the storage system securely, safely and in line with relevant legislation and your workplace requirements
- follow your workplace procedures and relevant legislation to give staff clear roles and responsibilities for storing and moving goods and check they understand these roles and responsibilities
- develop and update plans to cope with storage problems in your workplace’s storage facility
- manage staff to ensure they are storing and moving goods competently, safely, securely and in line with relevant legislation and your workplace requirements
- follow your workplace procedures to maintain complete, accurate and up-to-date stock records that can be accessed easily by everyone in your workplace who requires them

You need to know and understand:
- how effective storage systems contribute to reducing stock loss
- how to organise what storage facilities are required for goods on order in your workplace
- how to manage staff in your workplace's storage facility
- how to protect goods from causes of deterioration and damage
- how to work out suitable storage layouts and solve storage problems efficiently, safely and securely following your workplace procedures and relevant legislation
- how to run your workplace’s stock control systems in line with your workplace requirements, including using them to monitor and record stock loss
- the relevant legislation for storing and moving stock,
- why you need to maintain accurate and up to date stock records that can be found easily by relevant staff in your workplace
