When you have completed this standard you will be able to demonstrate your understanding of and ability to:
- Organise staff to receive, check and record incoming deliveries in a retail organisation
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- follow your workplace procedures to organise sufficient relevant staff and brief them before incoming deliveries are received
- follow your workplace procedures to make sure that the area for receiving deliveries is prepared and that there is enough storage space for the delivery
- follow your workplace procedures and relevant legislation to check that deliveries are received and unloaded safely and securely
- follow your workplace procedures to make sure that deliveries are promptly checked against incoming delivery documentation
- make sure that incoming delivery documentation is complete and accurate and processed promptly according to your workplace requirements
- use delivery documentation to check that each supplier has met their delivery obligations to your workplace
- identify problems with incoming deliveries and follow your workplace procedures to resolve them promptly if within your authority or inform the correct person, when they cannot be resolved

You need to know and understand:
- how to prepare to receive and handle different types of deliveries
- how and when to organise staff in preparation of incoming deliveries
- your workplace procedures for receiving incoming deliveries, including dealing with incorrect, damaged and late deliveries
- which staff are involved in or affected by a delivery schedule and the information they need to receive deliveries efficiently
- your workplace standards for acceptable deliveries
- why incoming deliveries must be checked against incoming delivery documentation straight after unloading
- your workplace's recording and control systems including procedures for checking deliveries received
- relevant legislation and your workplace's safety and security procedures for receiving deliveries
- what problems there may be with incoming deliveries, how to resolve them if within your authority, why it is important to do this promptly and your workplace’s procedure to follow when they cannot be resolved
