Overview
This standard is about making the necessary checks after a driver-controlled transfer of fuel is complete. Fuel poses serious risks to health and safety and it is vitally important that these checks are completed and that relevant legislation is followed.
This standard is for all forecourt staff with authority to check driver-controlled transfers of fuel.
When you have completed this standard you will be able to demonstrate your understanding of and ability to:
- Check that driver-controlled deliveries of fuel have been completed.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- follow the relevant legislation relating to fuel safety
- follow your workplace procedures for monitoring the driver during driver-controlled fuel transfer activities
- follow your workplace procedures for checking with the driver that the necessary safety checks have been made
- follow your workplace procedures when driver-controlled fuel transfers have not been completed safely
- follow your workplace procedures for confirming with the driver that the expected type and amount of fuel has been delivered to each tank and all transfers have been completed
- follow your workplace procedures and relevant legislation to identify any safety hazards remaining after delivery, remove them or make them safe and record or report them
- follow your workplace procedures for reporting unsafe practices to the correct person
- follow your workplace procedures for completing the relevant documentation after the driver has completed all the transfers
- follow relevant legislation relating to fuel safety

You need to know and understand:
- the relevant legislation relating to fuel safety in your workplace
- your workplace requirements for monitoring the driver during fueltransfer activities
- the safety checks the driver is responsible for making when fuel delivery is complete, and why these checks are needed
- your workplace procedures for confirming with the driver that the necessary safety checks have been made
- your workplace procedures when driver-controlled fuel transfers have not been completed safely
- your workplace procedures for confirming with the driver that the expected type and amount of fuel has been delivered to each tank and all transfers have been completed
- typical safety hazards associated with driver-controlled transfers and how to identify these, remove them or make them safe and record or report them
- how to report unsafe practices to the correct person following your workplace procedures
- your workplace and relevant legislation requirements for the documentation you need to complete, and how to complete it
