Put goods into storage in a retail organisation
Overview
This standard is about storing goods in the right places so that they are safe and secure and can be reached when required. It can involve handling goods manually as well as using lift trucks in a retail organisation.
This standard is for staff who have responsibility for placing goods into storage manually and/or using safe and maintained lifting equipment.
When you have completed this standard you will be able to demonstrate your understanding of and ability to:

Important safety requirement
Current Health and Safety Executive's (HSE) requirements and Approved Codes of Practice for operators must be followed when using fork lift trucks.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- put goods in the right storage facilities within the time expected by your workplace
- follow relevant legislation for storing deliveries of goods safely, securely and hygienically
- follow your workplace requirements for storing deliveries of goods safely, securely and hygienically
- use lifting equipment safely and in accordance with relevant legislation and your workplace health and safety procedures
- position goods in the correct storage locations following your workplace procedures so that they can be easily identified and reached when required
- use your workplace stock rotation system
- use the available storage space safely and follow relevant housekeeping procedures
- identify and repair faulty equipment within your area of responsibility and ability
- report promptly and to the correct person any faulty equipment that is not within your area of responsibility or ability to repair following your workplace requirements for completing relevant documentation
- follow your workplace requirements for completing relevant documentation
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
- the relevant legislation for storing deliveries of goods safely,securely and hygienically
- your workplace requirements for storing deliveries safely, securelyand hygienically
- why goods need to be rotated
- how to position goods so that batches of stock can be reached easily and in the right order
- your workplace requirements for using available storage space safely.

- where to get instructions for storing goods
- how to work safely, securely and efficiently when putting goods into storage

- what, when and how to complete your workplace documentation
