Overview

What is this standard about?​ This standard expresses the skills, knowledge and understanding required to demonstrate competence in shutting down and securing plant after use. Who is this standard for? This standard can apply to any person who is required to operate plant and who needs to shut down and secure the plant after operations within an extractives and mineral products environment.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. conduct your work in line with relevant regulations, legislation and safe working practices to maintain a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible workplace
  2. interpret the giving operating information relating to the shutdown of plant and confirm its relevance
  3. communicate with others and maintain records relating to the shutdown and security of plant
  4. select, check and wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for shutting down and securing plant
  5. park up and shut down plant in accordance with site, organisation and manufacturers’ requirements and in line with safe working practices
  6. conduct a post-stop inspection of the plant in accordance with site, organisation and manufacturers’ requirements and in line with safe working practices
  7. work within your own level of competence and seek assistance and advice when required

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. relevant regulations, legislation, company policies and procedures, safe working practices and operating information
  2. how to select, check and wear the appropriate PPE for shutting down plant
  3. how to report problems with the plant and equipment
  4. who to notify when shutting down and securing plant
  5. what constitutes a safe location for the plant when shutting down and securing it after use
  6. the importance of post-stop checks
  7. the limits of your own responsibility and competence and when to seek assistance or advice from others
  8. why it is important to take responsibility for your own behaviour and standards of work
  9. the hazards associated with the shutdown and securing of plant
  10. how maintenance of plant is carried out
