What is this standard about?
This standard specifies the skills, knowledge and understanding required to demonstrate competence in the use of tools and materials to check, fit, operate and remove attachments such as buckets, forks or breakers that are fitted to mobile plant to enable the flexibility and scope of operations within the capability of the plant to be increased.
Who is this standard for?
This standard can apply to any person operating plant who is required to fit, operate and remove attachments within extractives and mineral products settings.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- conduct your work in line with relevant regulations, legislation and safe working practices to maintain a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible workplace.
- interpret the given operating information relating to the use of plant attachments and confirm its relevance
- communicate with others and work as part of a team when operating plant attachments
- identify the hazards and risks associated with fitting, operating and removing plant attachments
- select, check and wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the work activity
- select compatible attachments for the specified operations
- fit attachments to plant in line with safe working practices
- check the fit and operation of attachments before use
- work within your own level of competence and seek assistance and advice when required
- operate the plant with attachments fitted in accordance with given working instructions to meet the required specification
- disconnect and remove attachments in line with safe working practices
- secure and store plant attachments in line with safe working practices

You need to know and understand:
- relevant regulations, legislation, company policies and procedures, safe working practices and operating information
- how to select, check and wear the appropriate PPE for the task
- how to report problems with the plant attachments
- how to select the correct plant attachment for the work activity
- the process for checking the fit and operation of attachments
- how plant attachments may affect the operation and manoeuvering of the plant
- how to disconnect and remove the attachment from the plant in line with safe working practices
- where and how plant attachments should be stored
- the tools and ancillary equipment related to plant attachments
- the limits of your own responsibility and competence and when to seek assistance or advice from others
- the importance of monitoring the condition of plant attachments and related equipment
