Achievement of this standard demonstrates your competence managing the environmental, sustainability as well as the biodiversity aspects on the site.

The standard ensures that you are operating to relevant legislation, company policies and ensuring you are meeting your legal obligations.
 
Who is this standard for?
This standard is applicable to anyone at a supervisory or managerial level approved to carry out this function working in the mineral extractive sector.

Your responsibilities will require you to comply with company policy and procedures for the activities undertaken, and to report any problems that you cannot solve, or that are outside your responsibility, to the relevant authority.

You will be expected to take full responsibility for your own actions within the activity, and for the quality and accuracy of the work that you carry out.

Applying and advising on safe working practices will be a key issue throughout.



Performance criteria

You must be able to:

P1. conduct your work in line with relevant regulation, legislation, company policies, procedures, and industry good practice
P2. ensure that all individuals potentially impacted by company activities are suitably protected 
P3. contribute to a positive culture toward the environment
P4. demonstrate leadership through positive sustainability behaviours
P5. identify site biodiversity and environmental hazards, risks and impacts
P6. implement suitable controls for site biodiversity and environmental hazards, risks and impacts
P7. ensure the environmental risk assessments and safe systems of work process is implemented
P8. manage effective environment and sustainability systems
P9. ensure that inspections are carried out in compliance to the scheme of inspections
P10. carry out environmental sampling and monitoring
P11. ensure all planning permission obligations are adhered to
P12. ensure all permits are in place for the work activities
P13. conduct emergency response drills
P14. ensure the site drainage plan is valid and up to date
P15. conduct or review the climate change risk assessment
P16. ensure all waste is minimised and disposed of through approved channels
P17. ensure that the company recycling policy is adhered to
P18. create action plans to resolve defects, and implement improvements and changes
P19. evaluate findings from audits and inspections
P20. analyse environment and sustainability data and identify trends
P21. review & distribute information to relevant parties on environment and sustainability
P22. collaboratively create risk assessments for environmental impacts
P23. evaluate the effectiveness of the site environment and sustainability management system to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvements
P24. maintain accurate records in accordance with company policies and procedures
