Overview


This standard covers carrying out the handover and installation of land-based equipment. The term “installation” is used in this context to mean any aspect of the initial use of a product or service.

This standard is for those who have responsibility for the installation of land-based equipment in any of the land-based sectors, e.g. agriculture, horticulture, amenities, ground care, arboriculture or forestry.

The individual is also required to provide assistance to customers during handover and installation within the limits of their authority and to resolve customers' queries and problems.

This standard requires adherence to all the relevant legislation and regulations.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:


  1. be aware of hazards and assess the risks associated with the activity and the location where it is to be carried out
  2. be aware of the potential environmental impact associated with the activity and the ways in which this can be controlled
  3. select and wear suitable clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  4. select, prepare, use, maintain and store the tools and equipment required to carry out the activity in accordance with the relevant legal requirements, manufacturer's instructions and company practices
  5. arrange a suitable time and location to carry out handover and installation of land-based equipment
  6. carry out handover and installation in accordance with the manufacturer’s and the company’s procedures
  7. review and confirm the operator's understanding of the functioning of the equipment
  8. confirm the operator’s understanding of how to use data from the equipment to optimise performance
  9. leave equipment in a safe and fully functioning condition following completion of the handover and installation
  10. complete records as required by the relevant legislation, warranty requirements and company procedures

You need to know and understand:


  1. the hazards and risks associated with the handover and installation of land-based equipment
  2. the type of clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE) suitable for the activity
  3. the tools and equipment required to carry out the activity and how to select, prepare, use, maintain and store these safely and correctly, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and company practices
  4. the reasons for, and the benefits of, handover and installation procedures for land-based equipment
  5. any equipment characteristics that must be taken into account when carrying out the handover and installation
  6. how to identify what needs to be covered during the handover and installation
  7. how to carry out an installation using a systematic process and the relevant quality control systems
  8. how to confirm the operator’s level of understanding of the equipment after handover and installation
  9. the responsibilities and limits of your authority when carrying out the handover and installation 
  10. the technical advice and assistance that can be offered to customers
  11. how to deal with queries or problems during the handover and installation
  12. the importance of leaving equipment in a safe condition following the handover and installation
  13. the potential impact that the activity could have on the environment and the ways in which this can be controlled
  14. the information that needs to be recorded, the company procedure for maintaining records and the requirements of data protection legislation
