Plan and set out sports areas
Overview
This standard is for those who plan and set out sports areas.
If you are working with equipment or machinery you should be trained and hold current certification where required in line with relevant legislation.
You will be required to carry out an initial survey of the site as well as an environmental assessment. You will also be required to plan and set out the sports area in accordance with the rules of the relevant sports activity.
You must carry out your work in a way which will minimise the impact on the natural environment and enhance its nature, conservation and recreational value.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- assess the risks associated with setting out sports areas
- confirm that suitable clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn
- carry out an environmental assessment of the site before starting work
- check and confirm the type, function and required dimensions of the sports area
- produce accurate plans for sports areas which are consistent with the rules of the sport and the function, use and safety of the site
- check and confirm that the positioning and dimensions of the sports area are laid out and marked according to the rules of the sport and plans
- confirm equipment and machinery required to set out sports areas is prepared, used and maintained safely and correctly
- carry out the planning and setting out of a sports area in a manner which prevents damage to the surrounding area
- maintain working relations with all relevant people throughout the planning and setting out of sports areas
- maintain communication with colleagues and others involved in, or affected by, your work
- leave the site in an undamaged and tidy condition following setting out
- deal with waste safely and correctly in accordance with relevant legislation and organisational requirements
- carry out your work in accordance with relevant environmental and health and safety legislation, risk assessment requirements, codes of practice and organisational policies
