This standard is about contributing to the rearing of game bird chicks and juvenile game birds in support of game shooting activities. It can be applied to any game bird that is reared under controlled conditions.

This standard is for those who work in game conservation and can be applied to any wildlife management area or game farm.

Performance criteria

You must be able to:


  1. contribute to the rearing of game bird chicks and juvenile game birds so that production targets can be achieved, in accordance with the relevant national legal requirements and codes of practice 
  2. confirm that work is carried out safely, in accordance with the relevant health and safety requirements
  3. maintain production operations within the known resource availability and according to welfare requirements

  5. implement measures to control pests and predators
  6. implement measures for the transport and receipt of game bird chicks for rearing
  7. implement feeding and care regimes for reared game bird chicks and juvenile game birds to maintain their nutritional and welfare requirements
  8. follow established procedures to minimise the effect of factors that can disrupt rearing
  9.  implement rearing conditions that maintain the welfare and development of reared game bird chicks and juvenile game birds and promote their survival
  10. recognise ill health in reared game birds, through the accurate interpretation of signs 
  11. administer prophylactic and disease treatments to reared game bird chicks and juvenile game birds, according to veterinary instructions, national legal requirements and codes of practice
  12. maintain communication with those caring for reared game bird chicks and juvenile chicks to facilitate their effective production
  13. confirm accurate records are maintained as required by the relevant legislation, codes of practice and organisational requirements
