This standard is about monitoring and confirming compliance with fishery requirements. It covers monitoring activities to identify and report signs of unauthorised fishing or fish stocking.
This standard requires the ability to undertake routine patrols and surveillance activities to monitor and confirm compliance with the requirements of the fishery.
This standard requires that you carry out work safely in line with the relevant legal and health and safety requirements.
The legislation controlling the application of this standard will vary depending on the location of the fishery – in England, Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- carry out all the activities required to safely monitor and confirm compliance with fishery requirements, in line with the relevant health and safety requirements
- select and use suitable personal protective equipment (PPE) for the work
- monitor fishing activity to confirm compliance with fishery requirements
- use suitable methods to advise anglers of the fisheries management policy in order to obtain their compliance with fishery requirements
- complete routine patrols and surveillance activities in accordance with fishery requirements
- identify and observe suspected incidents of unauthorised fishing or fish stocking
- keep up-to-date records of compliance incidents and report all suspected incidents of unauthorised fishing and fish stocking to the appropriate authority

- the relevant health and safety requirements associated with monitoring and confirming compliance with fishery requirements
- the fishing methods authorised for use by the fishery
- the signs that indicate potential unauthorised fishing or fish-stocking activities
