Produce fisheries management plans
Overview
This standard is about producing fisheries management plans. It covers analysing management information to determine management and development objectives for a fishery. The management plans will include habitat maintenance, habitat improvement, monitoring and data collection, fish stock management and the control of exploitation. It also includes gaining feedback and agreement on the plan from all those involved.
This standard requires the ability to assess the size and structure of fish stocks, the distribution of fish stocks, the ability of the habitat to support fish stocks and interactions with other wildlife.
The relevant legislation controlling the application of this standard will vary depending on the location in England, Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- analyse management information to assess the fisheries characteristics and derive management recommendations in order to produce fisheries management plans
- clarify the factors that may affect the long-term potential of a fishery
- produce fisheries management plans to fulfil the potential of the fishery and to comply with relevant legal requirements
- obtain feedback from those involved in the fishery as part of the overall development of fisheries management plans
- determine the resource requirements necessary to support the successful implementation of fisheries management plans
- establish a range of interventions that may be used to ensure that the objectives of fisheries management plans are achieved
- communicate the requirements of fisheries management plans to all those involved in its implementation
