Overview
This standard describes how to organise the site for the installation of fencing. This standard covers: • preparing the site • confirming that appropriate security arrangements are in place • communicating the site requirements to the users of the site. This standard is suitable for fencing installation supervisors. It can be applied to support any fence installation operation.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
complete a site-specific risk assessment to identify hazards
- confirm that environmental and health and safety policies and
procedures and risk assessment requirements are put into
practice across your area of responsibility
- confirm that the requirements for personal protective equipment
(PPE) are communicated to site users
- maintain communication with those involved in, or affected by,
your work
- confirm that signs and barriers are set up, where required, to
protect people and create a safe working environment
- organise the site for the installation of fencing to minimise the
impact on the surrounding area, other users of the site and
anyone else who may be affected
organise the site to minimise disruption to the proposed works
confirm that the layout of the working area, including entry and
exit points, is clearly identified and communicated to site users
- confirm that site security arrangements meet the requirements for
personnel, equipment and material protection
- confirm that systems are set up for the safe disposal of waste and
excess materials in order to minimise environmental risk, in
accordance with the relevant legal requirements
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
how to carry out a risk assessment and why this is important
- how to communicate environmental and health and safety policies
and procedures and risk assessment requirements to site users,
and confirm that they understand their responsibilities
- the type of clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE) that
should be worn on site
- the importance of maintaining communication with those involved
in, or affected by, your work
- how specifications and work requirements for the installation of
fencing are used to determine the layout and set-up of sites
- how to organise site operations to minimise the potential impact
on the surrounding area, other site users and anyone else who
may be affected
how to set out a safe and efficient working area
the relevant legal and site requirements for the use of signs,
protective barriers and traffic management systems
the importance of maintaining the reputation of the company
the site security requirements for the protection of personnel,
equipment and materials
- the relevant legal requirements controlling the disposal of waste
