This standard describes how to supervise the establishment and maintenance of lines and levels. Performance criteria
You must be able to:
complete a site-specific risk assessment to identify hazards
- confirm that environmental and health and safety policies and risk
assessment requirements are put into practice across your area
of responsibility
- confirm that suitable clothing and personal protective equipment
(PPE) is available and worn on site
- obtain fencing specifications and communicate requirements to
those carrying out the work
- organise the required resources to support the establishment and
maintenance of lines and levels
maintain communication with those carrying out the work
confirm that tools, equipment and materials are prepared, used,
maintained and stored safely and kept in a serviceable condition
- confirm that signs and barriers are set up, where required, to
protect people and create a safe working environment
- check and confirm the location of services and obstructions where
present
- confirm reference points are established to support planned
installation
- confirm that lines and levels are established accurately, working
from reference points
- supervise the establishment and maintenance of lines and levels,
and check that all work is carried out in accordance with the
instructions and specifications provided
- monitor the work undertaken and take action where problems or
faults arise
- confirm that the work is carried out in a manner that causes
minimal impact to the surrounding area, other users of the site
and anyone else who may be affected

carrying out the work, as well as confirming that they understand
