Overview

This standard is about the planning and construction of diverse floral and planted designs for sale.  Diverse floral designs include tied, wired, glued and designs in a medium/water source.  They can range from waterfall/cascade arrangements, large scale arrangements, a design to include frameworks and much more.

This standard will also involve interpreting job specifications, producing detailed sketches and quotations/estimates, constructing and wrapping designs.

When undertaking all work the impact on the environment should be considered.

All work will be carried out in accordance with relevant legislation and organisational procedures.

This NOS is suitable for a Senior Florist.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. Interpret job specifications, including customer brief, budget/costing, purpose, time frame for construction and potential difficulties which may arise
  2. Select tools, equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) suitable for constructing diverse floral and planted designs for sale
  3. Produce detailed sketches of proposed diverse floral and planted designs, including the use of botanical nomenclature, sources of inspiration and construction techniques
  4. Plan diverse floral and planted designs which take into account suitability for the intended purpose and suitability/durability of the materials
  5. Plan diverse floral and planted designs using the Design Schema
  6. Apply colour association and symbolism within suitable designs
  7. Develop an awareness of the styles of influential floral designers, including ethos, inspiration and signature techniques/methods
  8. Develop an awareness of how trends, both past and present, can influence a person’s ideas and design style
  9. Consider sources of inspiration when designing diverse floral and planted designs
  10. Propose ideas to meet design briefs for small events and corporate clients, working within company costing policies and preparing estimates/quotations
  11. Communicate plans, design briefs and quotations/estimates with the customer

  18. Wrap and protect a range of diverse floral and planted designs for presentation and/or transportation
  19. Maintain hygiene and bio-security in accordance with policies and procedures of the organisation and in compliance with any relevant legislation
