Overview

This standard is about the planning and construction of core floral and planted designs for sale, which could include tied, wired, glued and designs in a medium/water source.  Core designs could include buttonholes, small posies etc.

This will involve following verbal or written instructions, producing simple sketches, construction, costing and wrapping designs.

When undertaking all work the impact on the environment should be considered.

All work will be carried out in accordance with relevant legislation and organisational procedures.

This standard is suitable for a Junior florist.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

1. Follow the customer’s verbal and written/pictorial instructions (e.g. a flower order supported by a photograph) when planning to construct core floral and planted designs for sale 2. Select tools, equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) suitable for constructing core floral and planted designs for sale 3. Produce simple sketches to aid design planning of core floral and planted designs 4. Plan core floral and planted designs which take into account suitability for the intended purpose and suitability/durability of the materials 5. Plan core floral and planted designs using the Design Schema 6. Apply colour theory and the colour harmonies within the core floral and planted design 7. Develop an awareness of the work of a range of inspirational florists to aid the planning of core floral and planted designs 8. Develop an awareness of current trends within the floristry sector 9. Maintain hygiene and bio-security in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organisation and in compliance with any relevant legislation 17. Dispose of waste materials in a sustainable way, following any relevant legislation and policies and procedures of the organisation 18. Carry out all work in accordance with the relevant environmental and health and safety legislation, risk assessment requirements and policies and procedures of the organisation
