Plan, develop, implement, and monitor organisational systems to prevent and control the potential release of pollutants into the environment
Overview
This standard describes the skills and knowledge requirements for planning, developing, implementing and monitoring organisational systems to prevent and control the release of pollutants into the environment. Pollutants involving liquids, chemicals, silt, heat, bacteria, gases, silage, organic manure, soil run-off and erosion, and dust particles must be prevented or controlled through planned prevention and control systems.
Your work to plan, develop and implement systems to prevent and control the release of pollutants into the environment must be carried out in a way
that minimises any adverse environmental impact.
When producing systems to prevent and control the release of pollutants, we need to have in mind the need to protect nature and strengthen ecological resilience, boost resource-efficiency, lower carbon growth and reduce threats to human health and wellbeing.
This standard is suitable of all those involved in controlling pollution within an organisation.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- Assess the risks associated with pollutants produced by the organisation
- Identify the potential nature, extent and impact of a pollution incident caused by the organisation
- Plan and develop organisational systems to prevent and control the potential release of pollutants into the environment
- Plan and develop organisational systems for prevention and control of pollutants which visually improve as well as protect the environment
- Estimate and budget the resources required for implementing organisational systems to prevent and control the release of pollutants into the environment
- Confirm that any organisational systems to prevent and control pollutant release meet relevant environmental legislation, regulations, and directives
- Communicate and engage with relevant stakeholders, including those with protected characteristics regarding planning, development, and implementation of organisational systems
- Evaluate feedback from relevant stakeholders regarding organisational systems
- Implement the organisational system for preventing and controlling pollutant release into the environment
- Continually monitor the organisational pollutant prevention and control system
- Collate feedback from relevant stakeholders regarding the monitoring of the organisational pollutant prevention and control system
- Record the findings and implement improvements to the organisational pollutant prevention and control system
