Overview
This standard describes the skills and knowledge requirements implement and monitor improvements recommended by an organisational environmental audit. It includes planning and implementing recommended improvements and monitoring them on regular basis.
This standard is appropriate for:
· A manager with responsibility for environmental management and/or sustainability
· An owner/manager of a business seeking to improve the environmental performance of the organisation
· An environmental management systems co-ordinator or equivalent
· An environmental auditor
· A consultant providing environmental advice.
This standards also covers engaging and communicating with those involved in the implementation of audit recommendations.
It also covers monitoring on a regular basis how improvement have aided the organisation to improve their environmental performance.
Those involved in implementing and monitoring improvements recommended by an organisational environmental audit, need to be involved in carbon accounting and Life Cycle Assessments of their products, services, and activities. This will involve assessing their own carbon footprint of their products and services, as well as making decisions on who to purchase resources from, through evaluating their natural capital accounting and their cardon accounting. Organisations need to be accountable for how they manage their impact on the environment, they need to become more sustainable. The organisation needs to look at their carbon impact at global as well as a local level. This will also involve assessing the impact
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
1. Agree any actions for improvement arising from the organisational environmental audit with the auditor
2. Carry out a risk assessment of recommended improvements
3. Plan the implementation of improvements within organisation recommended by an organisational environmental audit
4. Establish systems to implement and monitor improvements within the organisation recommended by an organisational environmental audit
5. Confirm that improvements are measurable against organisational objectives
6. Implement improvements recommended by an organisational environmental audit
7. Monitor the effectiveness of improvements recommended by an organisational environmental audit
8. Confirm that the relevant environmental and health and safety legislation, risk assessment requirements, and policies of your organisation are put into practice across your area of responsibility
9. Report effectiveness of improvements to all those involved in, or affected by your work
