Overview
This standard is about working with the private sector to increase the availability of new rented homes. It is about providing advice for private landlords on the options available to them for dealing with their empty property/properties and providing support for them to get their property up to standard.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- develop and manage systems to bring empty properties back into use
- identify privately-owned properties and confirm their status as empty
- provide advice for private sector landlords on the options available to them for dealing with their empty property/properties
- provide support for and work with private sector landlords to bring their properties up to the required organisational standard
- identify properties which satisfy the requirements of empty dwelling management orders
- apply for empty dwelling management orders from the local authority to take over the management of identified properties
- develop and manage initiatives to provide more housing options and choice for customers
- develop and manage rent guarantee/bond schemes or other schemes that enable customers to secure a new rented home for them
- identify private sector options to provide new rented homes for customers
- follow all relevant company procedures and legislative requirements in relation to enabling the availability of new rented homes

- the organisational reasons for increasing and securing the availability of new rented homes
- the procedures which your organisation has in place for monitoring and reporting on their provision of new rented homes
- how to support and work with private sector landlords to bring their properties up to standard

- the relevant organisational lettings and allocation procedures
- the actions to take in response to identified problems
