Overview
This standard is about developing and delivering a presentation. You agree the purpose, content, style and length of the presentation then research and develop the presentation to suit your audience. When delivering the presentation, you use voice tone, pace, volume and body language to reinforce the presentation's message and maintain audience interest. You make contingency arrangements for potential problems that may arise. The standard also includes you reflecting on the outcomes of the presentation to identify personal learning points and improvements for future presentations.
It is for professionals in business administration roles who develop and deliver a presentation.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- confirm the presentation audience and their needs
- agree the objectives, content, style and time of the presentation with stakeholders
- research content for use in the presentation
- identify the equipment, software and resources required for creating and delivering the presentation
- prepare the presentation to meet the objectives and needs of the audience
- produce presentation handouts and supporting materials
- provide the opportunity for colleagues to contribute their ideas and opinions to the design
- develop contingency plans in case of equipment failure or other problems
- practise delivery of your presentation
- check that the equipment and resources are in working order
- prepare presentation materials for the audience
- introduce yourself to the audience and state the aims of the presentation
- speak clearly and confidently, using language which is appropriate to the topic and the audience
- use the relevant equipment or tools to run the presentation
- vary your voice tone, pace and volume to emphasise key points and maintain the audience's interest
- use your body language in a way that reinforces your message
- gauge audience reactions during the presentation and adapt your delivery accordingly
- summarise the key points following your presentation
- provide an opportunity for the audience to ask questions
- listen carefully to questions and clarify your understanding
- meet the audience's needs when answering questions
- collect feedback on the presentation
- reflect on your own performance and identify learning points
- resolve any problems that occur during development, preparation and delivery
- evaluate the presentation and identify changes that will improve future presentations
- follow the legal, organisational, codes of practice and policies relevant to your role and the activities being carried out
