This standard covers the skills and knowledge needed to work in an environmentally safe way. You will need to follow safe working practices; identify, minimise and report environmental damage and incidents; and dispose of waste in an environmentally safe way.
This standard is for you, if you work in food and drink operations.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- follow environmentally safe working practices and take precautions to minimise environmental damage
- identify incidental damage following standard operating procedures
- minimise any incidental damage following standard operating procedures
- report environmental incidents and actions taken following standard operating procedures
- dispose of waste materials following standard operating procedures
- identify potential for recycling following standard operating procedures
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
- different methods used to minimise environmental damage
- how to choose suitable materials and equipment, given the nature of the work activity, and its potential impact on the environment
- different types of environmental damage
- organisational and legislative requirements relating to environmental damage
- types of damage that may occur, the impact these can have on the environment, and what corrective actions can be taken
- how to dispose of waste in ways that minimise the risk to the environment
- how to identify potential for recycling
- reporting procedures for environmental incidents
