Overview

This standard is about mobilising a motor vehicle at the roadside. This may include basic repair or replacement of components. Repairs are likely to be restricted by time, at which point vehicle recovery is to be actioned.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

P1 identify and wear suitable personal protective equipment (PPE) which complies with legislation and industry codes of practice
P2 safeguard and maintain your own health and safety and that of those likely to be affected by your activities in accordance with current legislation 
P3 comply with any existing site risk assessments and carry out a dynamic risk assessment 
P4 ensure vehicle has been made safe prior to undertaking any activities
P5 identify where a minor repair will mobilise the vehicle
P6 select the correct method of repair from the appropriate manual or other media 
P7 undertake basic repairs at the roadside on: 

P7.1 electrical systems and circuits
P7.2 engine and fuel systems 
P7.3 transmission system
P7.4 steering and suspension systems
P7.5 brake systems 
P7.6 cooling systems 
P7.7 exhaust system
P8 demonstrate the ability to repair identified faults within the system 
P9 perform a re-test to ensure the repair is successful 
P10 use safe working practices when dealing with test equipment and tools 
P11 take prompt and effective corrective actions to resolve any errors within the limits of your workplace responsibilities 
P12 ensure handover documentation is completed accurately and passed promptly to the relevant person(s)

K2 how to recognise the repair procedure for the appropriate fault within the system

K5 the appropriate test equipment to be used for the fault presented 
K6 the appropriate tools and equipment to be used for the fault presented 
K7 the procedures for reporting problems 
K8 the health and safety requirements relevant to repair procedures
K9 the hazards associated with working on or near high voltage electrical vehicle components
K10 the importance of adhering to a robust, documented handover procedure
K11 the importance of informing the customer where temporary work has been carried out
