Overview
This standard is about mobilising a motor vehicle at the roadside. This may include basic repair or replacement of components. Repairs are likely to be restricted by time, at which point vehicle recovery is to be actioned.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
P1 identify and wear suitable personal protective equipment (PPE) which complies with legislation and industry codes of practice
P2 safeguard and maintain your own health and safety and that of those likely to be affected by your activities in accordance with current legislation
P3 comply with any existing site risk assessments and carry out a dynamic risk assessment
P4 ensure vehicle has been made safe prior to undertaking any activities
P5 identify where a minor repair will mobilise the vehicle
P6 select the correct method of repair from the appropriate manual or other media
P7 undertake basic repairs at the roadside on:
P7.1 electrical systems and circuitsP7.2 engine and fuel systemsP7.3 transmission systemP7.4 steering and suspension systemsP7.5 brake systemsP7.6 cooling systemsP7.7 exhaust systemP8 demonstrate the ability to repair identified faults within the systemP9 perform a re-test to ensure the repair is successfulP10 use safe working practices when dealing with test equipment and toolsP11 take prompt and effective corrective actions to resolve any errors within the limits of your workplace responsibilitiesP12 ensure handover documentation is completed accurately and passed promptly to the relevant person(s)
