Overview
This standard is about removing, storing safely and fitting basic non-welded, non-structural panels such as fairings, seat cowlings, screens, mirrors and luggage fittings on motorcycles.
In this standard the term ‘motorcycle’ includes motorcycles, scooters, mopeds and motorcycle-derived vehicles with three or four wheels (such as quad bikes) on which the rider sits.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
P1. use suitable personal protective equipment when removing, storing and fitting motorcycle non-welded, non-structural body panels
P2. ensure the motorcycle and the work area is safe prior to work commencing
P3. protect the motorcycle and its contents effectively when removing and fitting motorcycle non-welded, non-structural body panels
P4. store motorcycle non-welded, non-structural body panels safely, to minimise the risk of damage, in the correct location
P5. select and use the correct tools and equipment for the panels you are going to remove or fit
P6. ensure that the tools and equipment you require are in a safe working condition
P7. remove, store and fit motorcycle non-welded, non-structural body panels following:
P7.1. removal and fitting proceduresP7.2. manufacturer’s instructionsP7.3. your workplace proceduresP7.4. health, safety and legal requirementsP8. avoid damaging other components, units and panels on the motorcycle whilst carrying out the removal, storage and fitting activitiesP9. realign the panels you have fitted correctly in a way which regains their original manufactured gapsP10. check that the components you have fitted operate correctly following the manufacturer’s specificationP11. promptly report any additional faults you notice during the course of your work to the relevant person(s)
P12. promptly report any delays in completing your work to the relevant person(s)
P13. remove, store and fit motorcycle non-welded, non-structural body panels within the agreed timescaleP14. complete work records accurately, in the format required and promptly pass them to the relevant person(s)
