Overview
This standard is about conducting routine examination, adjustment and replacement activities as part of the periodic servicing of heavy vehicle trailers.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
P1 use suitable personal and vehicle protective equipment throughout all heavy vehicle trailer maintenance activities
P2 use suitable sources of technical and legal information to support all your maintenance activities
P3 use the correct specifications and tolerances for the heavy vehicle trailer when making assessments of system and component performance
P4 where the customer's trailer falls outside the manufacturer's original specification, record details accurately and use this adapted specification as the basis for your examination and assessment *
P5 examine the heavy vehicle trailer systems and *components following:
P5.1 manufacturer's approved examination methodsP5.2 your workplace proceduresP5.3 health, safety and environmental requirementsP6 ensure your examination methods identify accurately any heavy vehicle trailer system and component problems falling outside the servicing schedule specifiedP7 carry out adjustments, replacement of heavy vehicle trailer components and replenishment of consumable materials following the manufacturer's current specification for:P7.1 the particular service intervalP7.2 working methods and proceduresP7.3 use of equipmentP7.4 the tolerances for the vehicleP8 where system adjustments cannot be made within the manufacturer's specification, record the details accurately and take action which complies with the customer's instructionsP9 work in a way which minimises the risk of damage to the trailer and its systemsP10 use suitable testing methods to evaluate the performance of all replaced and adjusted components and systems accurately, prior to returning the heavy vehicle trailer to the customerP11 promptly report any problems or issues relating to the heavy vehicle trailer's condition or conformity to the relevant person(s)P12 ensure your maintenance records are accurate, complete and promptly passed to the relevant person(s) in the format requiredP13 complete all heavy vehicle trailer maintenance activities within the agreed timescale
P14 promptly report any anticipated delays in completion to the relevant persons(s)
