Overview
This standard covers the skills and knowledge needed to fabricate glass framing systems by assembly. This involves preparing the materials for the assembly process, and ensuring the correct type and quality are available. You will then use the appropriate equipment to assemble the materials in a way that meets the specification. You will also identify any problems with the process and take the appropriate action.
This unit applies to operatives who fabricate windows, doors, conservatories and curtain walling.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- comply with health and safety requirements and procedures at all times
- identify and confirm specifications for the preparation of the materials
- check materials are available for assembly to meet specifications
- select type, quantity, and quality of materials to be used to meet specifications
- prepare the materials to meet specifications
- store prepared materials following standard operating procedures
- identify suitable methods for assembling glass framing systems to meet specifications
- position the materials for assembly to meet specifications
- assemble materials to meet specifications
- clean finished glass framing systems and remove all excess materials following standard operating procedures
- store finished glass framing systems and label them following standard operating procedures
- identify any problems and deal with them following standard operating procedures
- record information on the assembly of glass framing systems in the appropriate information systems
