URN: GQAPGSF7
Business Sectors (Suites): Production of Glass Supporting Fabrications
Developed by: GQA
Approved on:

Overview
This standard covers the skills and knowledge needed to fabricate glass framing systems by processing materials, which could include cutting, bending, and drilling. This involves preparing the materials for the process, and ensuring the correct type and quality are available. You will then use the appropriate equipment to apply the process in a way that meets the specification. You have to identify any problems with the process and take the appropriate action.
This unit applies to operatives who fabricate windows, doors, conservatories and curtain walling.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- comply with health and safety requirements and procedures at all times
- identify and confirm specifications for preparation of the materials
- check materials are available for processing to meet specifications
- select the type, quantity, and quality of materials to be used during the processing to meet specifications
- prepare materials to meet specifications following standard operating procedures
- identify any problems and deal with them following standard operating procedures
- store prepared materials following standard operating procedures
- identify suitable methods for processing materials to meet specifications
- position materials for processing to meet specifications
- process materials to meet specifications
- monitor the processing of materials to ensure they achieve the specifications
- use materials to minimise wastage following standard operating procedures
- record information on the processing of materials in the appropriate information systems
