Overview
This standard covers the skills and knowledge needed to fabricate of glass framing systems by cutting. This involves preparing the materials for the process, and ensuring the correct type and quality are available. You will use the appropriate equipment to apply the process in a way that meets the specification. You will identify any problems with the process and take the appropriate action.
This unit applies to operatives who fabricate windows, doors, conservatories and curtain walling.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- comply with health and safety requirements and procedures during the cutting process
- identify and confirm specifications for the preparation of the materials
- check materials are available for cutting
- select the type, quantity, and quality of materials to be used during the cutting process
- prepare materials to meet specifications
- store cut profiles following standard operating procedures
- identify types of cutting to meet specifications
- position materials for cutting following standard operating procedures
- cut materials to meet specifications
- monitor the cutting of materials to meet specifications
- use materials to minimise wastage
- identify any problems and deal with them following standard operating procedures
- record information on the cutting of materials in the appropriate information systems
